Carve a Pumpkin Centerpiece for Your Wedding!

You love the idea of having a pumpkin centerpiece at your autumn nuptials! Are you considering pumpkins as a less expensive alternative to flowers? Afraid that your lack luster pumpkin carving skills will leave your tables less than festive? This tutorial will help you create beautiful glowing centerpieces that you and your guests will enjoy.

Pros: Much cheaper than regular floral centerpieces, and less complicated. Carved pumpkins add an elegant glow to table tops.

Cons Like floral centerpieces, your pumpkin centerpiece projects need to be created as close to the wedding as possible. Remember to keep the designs simple, as complex designs might be easily damaged.

Step 1: You will need a medium sized carving pumpkin, a set of pumpkin carving blades, a tablespoon, a sharp knife, a marker, a fall leaf or template (not pictures) and a candle.

Step 2: Stab the top of the pumpkin at an angle, and begin to carve out your chimney piece.

Step 3: Remove the piece, as shown.

Step 4: Use the tablespoon to scoop out the guts of the pumpkin. Scrape the inner walls of the pumpkin until it’s clean.

Step 5: Your pumpkin should look like this.

Step 6 Take your leaf or stencil and trace the shape with the marker. Complete a design on all sides of your pumpkin, making sure that it remains sturdy.

Step 7 Using the carving tools, punch a hole into the pumpkin and carefully carve out the shape. Once it is completely separated from the rest of the pumpkin wall, press the unwanted shape free. Tip: Have extra tools! The tools most kits provide are cheap and bend or break after a few uses.

Step 8: Your pumpkin should look something like this.

Step 9: Insert and light your candle, and your centerpiece is complete! Embellish your table with other small accents and additional candles and enjoy!
