Pros: Super simple and inexpensive to create. Another pro is its simplicity to customize…a switch of fabric color and you can have your own perfectly precious, custom ringer bearer pillow.
Cons: Almost no cons! Remember to be careful with if using a sewing machine or sewing by hand with a needle.
Step 1: You will need at least 16”x8” piece of fabric in your color of choice, 2 to 3 cups of stuffing, a length of cording that will extend the entire border of your pillow, 4 craft tassels, a pen, scissors, a sewing machine, needle and thread, a button, a ruler and 2 decorative rings.
Step 2: With your material folded in half, use your ruler to measure out a square on the “down” side of the fabric. We measured ours to be a 7”x7”x7” square.
Step 3: You should have something like this.
Step 4: Cut out the single square of doubled fabric. You should have two fabric squares of the exact same size.
Step 5: Arranging the fabric squares with the shiny satin sides facing each other, you can begin sewing the edges together. Sew each side until they are all almost sealed. Tip: It’s very important that you don’t forget to leave a corner of the pillow open!
Step 6: Your pillow should look something like this, with a small opening on one side. Pull the pillow inside out from that opening. Your satin should be on the outside when you’re done.
Step 7: Stuff the pillow until you are satisfied Then seal the corner with the needle and thread.
Step 8: Your basic pillow should look like this. Tip: You might consider sewing a strap, or handle to the pillow at this stage. If the ring bearer is very young, this may be a good idea.
Step 9: Using the needle and thread, carefully start securing the cording over the seam of the pillow.
Step 10: Once the cording has been started and tacked on to at least the first corner, pause and secure your tassels. Note: We cut the string loop and tied it around the cording first, then hid the extra string and secured it with the needle and thread.
Step 11: Attach each tassel to the corners of the pillow, then end the cording discreetly, securing with needle and thread.
Step 12: Determine which side of the pillow is the “bottom”. Take your button and place it in the center of pillow and proceed to secure it with the needle and thread. Once secured, sew through the button, creating a slight indent in the pillow’s face.
Step 13: Finally, take your decorating rings and sew them lightly to the pillow, nestling them in the dimple created by the button.
Step 14: Your custom ring bearer pillow is complete! Enjoy!
